Spain: 72 Pigs Killed For Fun

Spain: 72 pigs killed for fun

A few months ago in Spain there was a terrible news story that horrified the world for its cruelty and brutality, uncovering the barbarism that some human beings are able to perpetrate towards animals.

Of all the crimes that can be committed, the mistreatment of animals is one of the most degenerate and aberrant. Attacking the life and physical integrity of an animal is an act that not only reflects the merciless coldness of those who commit it, but also a very delicate problem that unfortunately is still alive today.

Today’s is not good news, it is a bad fact that must be told to show and make known the behavior of those who consider the life of an animal a source of fun, thinking of getting out of it unpunished.

The case that shocked Spain and the world

The incident happened on January 7, 2016, in the municipality of Huércal-Overa in Almeria, Spain. Two boys of 19 and 22, workers in a pig farm, decided not only to commit an inhuman gesture, but also to film themselves and broadcast the video online as if it were a joke or a feat to brag about.

The chosen victims, 72 suckling pigs, were stupidly sacrificed for the pleasure of an unusual and brutal diversion.

The most shocking aspect of the story is that of these poor animals, 19 died instantly, while the other 53 suffered severe trauma and died only afterwards.

Massacre of pigs: an abominable gesture

To commit this terrible massacre, the young people decided to transfer the piglets from the module they were in to another. Once inside, they blocked all escape routes so that the animals remained trapped and with no possibility of escaping.

At this point, one of the two boys began to throw himself violently into the confined space where the pigs were locked, killing them, causing them fractures and trauma of all kinds that ended up killing them.

He threw himself three times, falling with all his weight on the poor innocent beasts, while the other boy immortalized this absurd gesture with his cell phone.

Broadcasting of the video and arrest

Once the slaughter was over, the two young people decided to spread the video on WhatsApp, a mistake which, fortunately, cost them very dearly.

A few days later, in fact, the head of the pig farm saw the video  in which he saw in detail what the boys had done. The local police were immediately notified to take the necessary measures.

Once they saw the footage, the officers proceeded to identify and locate the perpetrators, who were charged with the crimes of animal abuse and harm.

Although animal abuse is a problem in Spain that has occurred many times, it is also true that in recent times strong steps have been taken to change this trend.

One of the most effective maneuvers was the revision of the law which now provides for new crimes and the increased penalties for those who commit these crimes.

One of the most striking cases of 2015 was the conviction of a Mallorcan man accused of having beaten his horse for losing a race.

The aspect that caused the most discussion was that the man, having been sentenced to eight months in prison, risked not spending even a day in prison, the sentence being less than two years. However, the judiciary opted for his imprisonment, considering the non-incarceration a negative message for society.
