How To Play With Your Cat

How to play with your cat

Today we will talk about a very important topic for the development of your cat, which is play. Playing is a fundamental need for the cat since it is just a puppy. Whether he does it with you, alone or with some other family member, he will have to play to develop and acquire new motor skills. It is indeed an excellent exercise.

Even if you don’t have a lot of time to devote to your cat, it is always possible to buy him some toys so he can play alone when you are not at home.

The need to play

As well as being fun, playing is also a very important activity for cats. In fact, it is estimated that they need at least 30 minutes of play a day, in this way it is possible to avoid ailments such as depression. It is also a way to strengthen the animal’s body and mind.

Sometimes cats can assume attitudes they have never shown before, such as nervousness, anxiety, depression and even aggression. This can be due to a very simple reason such as the need to play or exercise.

Not to be underestimated, if your cute kitty is busy playing, she may not have time to scratch your beautiful furniture, break plants, or even bite you to get attention.

The most important thing to take into consideration when choosing the game is to think of activities that allow the cat to exercise physically and to hone its skills, but try never to foment its aggression to avoid unpleasant accidents. Avoid playing with parts of your body, such as your hands and feet, as it may do it again when you don’t expect it and accidentally hurt you.

Of course, the cat can play with people or other cats, but it can also play alone. If it is a puppy, then it will play to chase each other with its siblings, to make the “ambushes” and to mount one on top of the other. But this situation will change when the puppy is separated from his mother and siblings, and from this moment he will start playing alone or with his owners.

We must not forget that cats have an innate hunting instinct, which obviously, being domesticated, they do not use or keep asleep. We can help develop this instinct through play. We have to make them run and jump, and if we had a small pool where they can “fish” for things, that would be really cool.

In addition, in pet shops you can find many toys that will help you foment your cat’s hunting instinct.

Cat toys

There are specific toys for cats,  designed to awaken their imaginations, develop their natural hunting instincts and enhance their concentration skills. Here is a short list with some of these toys:

The scratcher

The scratcher is perhaps the best known object, even if it is not really a toy, because cats  love to spend time sharpening their nails. Today there are models of various types and sizes, some very elaborate that become real gyms for cats, in which in addition to sharpening their nails, they can go up and down stairs, play with various pendants, etc.

The stick

The stick is another favorite cat toy. Of course, you play an important role in this game, and you will enjoy watching your cat try to grab the feather. The game consists precisely in attaching a rope to the stick from which a light feather hangs. The cat will try to grab it but you will have to make it difficult for him.

The soft toys

These are the cheapest but no less fun toys for your cats. Obviously on the market there are various materials, sizes and prices. They usually  have the shape of a mouse, and there are also models that make sounds,  in this way the soft toy will catch the attention of the cat who will chase it around the house. It’s almost more fun for us enjoying the show than for them.

Toys to foment ingenuity

On the market we can also find toys that foment the ingenuity of the cat,  stimulating its intelligence and abilities.
