Homemade Flea Remedies

Fleas are a problem that affects dogs, rabbits and cats. They can also be found indoors because eggs can be laid anywhere and are hard to find. These eggs turn into larvae and later into fleas. Did you know that flea eggs can remain dormant and not hatch for more than a year? For this reason it is advisable to continue cleaning frequently even after deleting them. Below we will share some home remedies to get rid of fleas and keep them under control.

Homemade remedies to get rid of fleas

Do you want to know what is the best way to get rid of fleas ? Here, the best way is undoubtedly to wash the dog with specific products. However, we will now illustrate a home remedy that can be very useful to you. To make this trap, you will need to place a little dish soap in a tray with water. Place a small candle in the center of the bowl, light it and place it in the various rooms of your home.
Fleas will be attracted to light. When they meet you, they will find themselves trapped in the liquid made viscous by the detergent. In this way, the fleas will die within a few minutes. If the house is particularly haunted, you can repeat the process for 3 or 4 nights in a row.
Remember: do not let animals and small children roam the house quietly while the traps are placed in the various rooms.
Another homemade flea remedy is to use aerosols. It is a non-toxic method that is processed with natural ingredients. Contains lemon juice and witch hazel water. It is a totally safe method for children and animals.
To prepare this natural spray you will need: 4 liters of vinegar, 2 liters of water, half a liter of lemon juice and a nebulizer. Mix all the ingredients and spray all over the house after vacuuming. This absolutely natural product kills flea larvae and eggs. You can repeat the process every day for a week, depending on how severe the flea infestation is.
And the salt? This alternative can also help. Salt is a dehydrating agent for fleas that causes their body to dry out. Sprinkle some salt on your carpets. You will need to cover the area evenly. Leave on for 12 to 48 hours. You can then vacuum clean.
Even the ‘boric acid can give good results. This remedy for getting rid of fleas, just like salt, acts as  a dehydrating agent. You will need to dust the boric acid in different areas of the house in thin layers. Clean the surfaces and vacuum after leaving the product to act for two days.
Precaution: Although boric acid is not very toxic to humans and pets, it must be used with care when there are small children and animals around.

Herbal remedies

Rosemary can be used to control fleas in a variety of ways : as a powder, oil, or as a rinse. At the same time it can be used to wash the dog. Immerse your pet in a basin with some water with rosemary and you will get great results. Do not use this remedy with cats, as they are very often allergic to it.
You can find rosemary oil in herbalist’s shops or in shops that sell natural products. Pour a couple of drops on your pet’s neck and repeat the treatment every day for a week.
If you want to make this effective natural repellent yourself, you have to grind rosemary, fennel, mint, wormwood and rue. You can use a mortar or a coffee grinder. Grind all the ingredients until you get a homogeneous mix. Then place the powder in a container and sprinkle on carpets, under furniture, in window frames or anywhere you think there may be fleas.
Another natural nebulizer can be easily obtained by mixing a handful of rosemary branches, the juice of 6 lemons and 3 or 4 drops of geranium oil in a liter of water. Boil these ingredients in water. Place the liquid in a container, cover it and let it rest overnight. The next day, strain the mixture and spray in all those places where you think there may be fleas.
Finally, you can also use lemongrass oil. It is an excellent repellent against insects such as fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and flies.
