Four-legged Heroes: A Good Initiative

Four-legged heroes: a good initiative

It’s great to still find people who love animals. To the point of dedicating them time, energy and so on, without earning anything. It becomes important to give them prominence and maximum visibility, to reward their efforts. But also in the hope that many others will follow them. Today we are talking about an interesting initiative that took place in Spain and called ‘Four-legged heroes’.

To organize it, a very special association of volunteers that we present, in detail, in this article.

To talk in depth about this initiative and the association that has decided to organize it, it is worth reading the official press release, taken from the site of this NGO. A few words that we hope will also raise the awareness of the Italian public towards events of this type:

Four-legged heroes” was born from an idea of a small group of people, all members of the National Police Corps, who love animals. The goal is to fill a gap present today in Spain, namely the retirement for all the dogs who served in aid and support to the Police Forces. The association was created by bringing together the animals already members of the Canine Units, true heroes of the nation and who, every year, contribute to saving lives, during earthquakes, avalanches and in operations against organized crime. With this initiative we want to make their story known to the public and convey the message that, after years of important work, they are perfect animals for the company of man and can be adopted “.

Even in Italy the situation is similar and few people know that it is possible to welcome a four-legged hero into the house. A way to reciprocate their impeccable work, with the peace of mind of having  superior dogs, intelligent and extremely reliable. The Italian State Police has dedicated this page to adoptions, which we invite you to visit.

What future for retired police dogs?

In addition to being an initiative of homage and thanks for these special animals, this event certainly aims to improve and encourage adoptions. This happens on a double track: looking for the right dog for a family and the ideal family for certain dogs. A system that serves to make adoptions as stable and lasting as possible.

The association has created an adoption protocol which includes an information questionnaire signed by the future owners. Volunteers will personally visit the houses and spaces where the animal will be hosted, in short, everything takes place with extreme seriousness. In return, the adopted dog will be delivered in perfect health, with all vaccines in order, sterilized and with an active microchip . Another interesting aspect is the help that is provided to the family on elements related to the management and maintenance of the dog.

Which dogs are among the ‘4-legged Heroes’?

The great advantage of this initiative is that, although created by members of the Police, it is open to all other Forces and sectors in which dogs are used as support and help. It seems to us a correct way to re-enter animals to which we all owe a lot. Do you feel ready to adopt a dog? Would you like to have a special, healthy, strong and extremely intelligent animal next to you? Adopting a former police dog is the best idea you can have.

Who can adopt a former police dog?

Already we have indicated the link of the Italian State Police to adopt a former police dog. It must be said that adoption is a gesture of extreme generosity. Anyone who is willing and able, can participate.

In Italy there are many voluntary associations that will be happy to help and guide you along the whole path of adoptions. Another system is to get information on the web and follow the other initiatives organized in our country. Like ‘International Dog Day’ or ‘National Police Dog Day’. A truly beautiful way to repay these four-legged heroes in the best possible way. Giving them a peaceful future in a welcoming home.
