Where To Bury Your Pet?

When the terrible event of losing your faithful companion occurs, it is normal that you do not know where to bury the animal, but there are several options that obviously must abide by the law.
Where to bury your pet?

Burying your pet is undoubtedly painful, and you may not know what to do when it happens.

There are some things you would never want to face, but unfortunately they happen and it’s best to be prepared. In this article we will tell you where to bury your pet.

Burying an animal, various options

If your dog suffers from some disease or is very old, sooner or later he will no longer be by your side. It’s painful, but you have to accept it.

However, sometimes we still think that our pet cannot “abandon us”. Either way, you need to know what to do with his remains.

If he dies in the veterinary clinic it is much easier because the vet will take care of everything, but if the dog loses his life in the house or on the street, you need to ask for help.

You may not have the emotional or physical capacity to take the body of your deceased pet and need someone to guide you. It can be a family member, friend or veterinarian.

Burying your pet: with or without insurance

In some countries there is animal insurance,  which provides for this situation and therefore tells us where to take them to be buried.

If you don’t have it, you can pay when the animal dies, and of course it will be more expensive.

Pet cemeteries graves

Municipalities usually provide a service to bury the animals and give them the greeting they deserve. By law, it is forbidden to build a tomb anywhere.

This is because mistakes in digging the hole must be avoided which could cause public health problems when the body decomposes. Do not forget that some animals, such as necrophagous birds, can perceive the remains from many kilometers away.

Another question to consider if your dog dies is to have the ID microchip deactivated. You can call the municipality directly to take care of everything. Generally, these 3 options exist for burying your pet:

1. Collective cremation

The bodies of various animals are cremated together and the owners do not receive the ashes.

2. Individual cremation

For this type you have to pay around 250 euros and there are private companies that deal with it. Cremation lasts about 3 hours and, at the end, the master receives the urn with the ashes.

3. Burial

Although there are few, animal cemeteries might be the right choice if you have one near you. The burial is similar to that of a person, as it includes a coffin and a tombstone. The costs will be borne by the owner.

Burying your pet in the garden?

This alternative is unthinkable for those people who live in cities or whose municipalities prohibit this practice.

However,  some countries do not have such laws or rather, pets are allowed to be buried on their land in rural areas.

It is important to take into account that the animal must be buried as soon as possible, at the latest 24 hours after its death, with the aim of avoiding the proliferation of diseases.

The location of the place where it will be buried is essential: it  is recommended that it be at least 30 meters from the house and 50 from water sources,  such as irrigation canals or rivers, to avoid contamination.

As for the depth of the hole, this will depend on the size of the animal (it is not the same thing to bury a Newfoundland as a Pinscher), even if it must be at least one meter.

Place the body first in a sturdy plastic bag and then in a wooden bar or crate. Throw a lot of earth on top of it and put a heavy weight like a stone on it, to prevent other animals from unearthing it.

After a few weeks, you can plant some flowers or a tree in the place where you buried your pet, a nice way to honor him as he deserves.
