Go on the snow with your dog

In many of our other articles we have explained to you how to spend a nice holiday with your dog. Even in the mountains or in any other place where you would like to relax for a few days, but without separating yourself from your furry friend. Now we will give you some tips for going with your dog in the snow.

First of all, the snow is abrasive, so before you decide to bring it, you have to consider some things and take precautions.

What to consider before going to the mountains with your dog

If you want a day on the snow to be something unforgettable for both you and your pets, you can’t just throw yourself into the snow to play. For your friend, take the following precautions:

Protect it from the cold

No matter what breed it is, even if it is a Husky you have to protect it from the cold. While it is true that long-haired dogs suffer from it less, they too need to be covered.

In pet shops and even some sporting goods stores you will find everything you need to protect your dog from the cold if you decide to take him on the snow.

Protect its paws

You already know that the tips of your dogs’ paws are one of the most delicate areas on their body. You must protect them on these occasions: it is essential for the day to pass well and without incidents.

At the vet you can find fingertip enhancers that must be applied in the days leading up to the holiday.

Even  when you are already in the snow, apply this petroleum jelly over it several times throughout the day. This will act as a protective film, preventing your dog from getting hurt. Furthermore, given its high level of hydration, it will protect it from cuts that snow can cause.

Check his fingertips several times during the walk, and if you see any cracks or any other wound, apply the petroleum jelly several times.

Check it out

Dogs eat whatever they come across. For this reason,  checking it during the day will be essential, since the most plausible thing that can happen is that it eats the snow. This could cause stomach problems, such as nausea and vomiting.

Watching him also will prevent him from getting lost, as in large spaces with many people this can easily happen.

Sun

Even if the weather in the snow is cold, it is possible that the day you go there will be sunny. The sun’s rays could make you tan, so you have to make sure your dog doesn’t spend too much time in the sun.

Even if you put protection on it,  there are areas, like the nose, that are very sensitive and could get burned.

Don’t leave it loose

You need to be careful in areas where you allow your dog to walk off the leash. You will have to choose places where there are neither children nor people who simply walk or play in the snow.

If your dog approaches the ski area or where there are sleds, he could have an accident, or even worse, cause it to others. This could put you in a bad situation.

As you can see, it is not a mission impossible to take your dog to the mountains. You will see how it will run and roll in the snow. There will certainly be some big laughs!

However,  don’t forget these tips to make your day enjoyable for both of you.
