Animals And Plants That Do Not Die

These species enjoy a longevity of thousands of years and only external causes can put an end to their existence
Animals and plants that do not die

Eternity is not accessible to the human being. Nature, however, has taught us that there are animals and plants that do not die and we, in a sense, would like to imitate them.

We will tell you about these species, what makes them special, why they do n’t die and what we can learn from them.

Are there really animals and plants that don’t die?

There are hundreds of myths and legends about eternal youth and endless life. Where do these visions of being come from?

Without a doubt from nature. Animals and plants have been discovered that are immortal, biologically speaking.

We specify this aspect because there is no plant or animal that is truly immortal or that cannot lose its life in an accident or by attack of a predator or parasite.

Despite this clarification, it is surprising to know that there are species that do not die. Here are some of them:

Long-lived pine

This tree species – in the photo that opens this article –  is found in North America and is estimated to be over 5000 years old. Although the passage of time has marked him, as his appearance shows, he remains standing, intact and impassive in the face of events.

Studies have shown that its cells do not age. It is thought that stem cells are found in the roots which cause the birth of new ones, keeping the cellular level intact.

Anemones

Anemones are marine animals that survive thanks to the poison they use to capture their prey,  small fish and molluscs, which they eat. Studies carried out on these animals show that their only sign of aging is their size.

Anemone

As they progress with age, their size increases, but no deaths have been reported. In fact, it is known for certain that  every part that is lost or removed from them continues to grow, showing an impressive capacity for regeneration .

As we specified earlier, this is biological immortality. In turn, anemones are prey to other animals and the moment they are eaten, they die.

It is thought that these animals hold the secret of immortality and they have a lot in common with humans.

For this reason, handsomely funded research is being carried out in order to study them and understand the secret of their immortality.

Sequoia

They are the tallest trees in the world and many hold out for thousands of years. Although many cases of dead redwoods are known, the cause of their demise is always linked to external elements such as fires and adverse weather events.

Sequoia

These trees, which are born from a tiny seed, reach incredible heights and it is thought that many of them can reach 5,000 years or more.

Will they hide the secret of immortality?

Jellyfish

You will probably be surprised to see this name on the list of plants and animals that do not die. You have certainly seen dead jellyfish on the beaches. Not all jellyfish are, however, there are several species that, following analysis, have proven to be immortal, biologically speaking .

Medusa

They can carry on their own development for a long time, as they are able to be eternally young. Interesting, don’t you think?

The more we learn from nature and from the beings that compose it, the more we realize how much it is still unknown to us.

Maybe someday it will be possible to live forever thanks to what we learn from it? Time will give us the answer.
