What is a half marathon?

It is a physical endurance test that runners prepare for for months, sometimes even years. The difference with a normal marathon is in the distances covered. A full marathon involves a distance of 42 kilometers or 26.2 miles, while a half marathon is only half as long.

Half marathons can be independent or can be part of a full marathon. Participants will join you at the halfway point – following a different route, but one that will cover the corresponding 13.1 miles or 21 kilometers. Of course they will not have access to the same prizes as the competitors in the full marathon, but they will be awarded according to an independent ranking.

On the other hand, the half marathons that are included in the full marathons mean that they count on a greater turnout of people, making the situation a little more crowded. Since we are addressing this topic, if one day you want to participate in a marathon in which there are not too many people, choose a complete one, which does not occur in conjunction with a half marathon.

Ludivine and participation in the half marathon

As it is obvious to think, when we talk about the participants of a half marathon, we are referring to people. Nobody could imagine a dog participating. What then prompted Ludivine to undertake this path?

Ludivine is a cross with a Scent hound. She is two and a half years old and full of energy, as she has shown. Her mistress always took her out into the garden to do her business, but that day Ludivine saw something that caught her attention.

Her mistress might not have known, but Ludivine had a plan in mind that went far beyond the simple walk in the backyard. After seeing a group of people walking quickly, not knowing where they were headed, something inside her prompted her to join the group.

The little dog could not imagine where she was hunting, no less than in the Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon in Elkmont (Alabama), which took place in January of this year.

We have absolutely no idea how Ludovine did it, yet she was perfectly able to position herself on the starting line and not move until the “Go!” Was pronounced.

But that’s not all:  the dog managed to finish the half marathon, the 13.1 miles, in an almost record time: in 1 hour, 32 minutes and 56 seconds, arriving in seventh place. And all this without considering the fact that, as some participants in the race said, Ludivine stopped several times on the way to smell a dead rabbit, to browse in a stream and at one point she even disappeared, probably looking for a place to do his business.

The amazement of the mistress

The truth is that if she hadn’t stopped, Ludivine would probably have beaten all the other riders by a lot.

His mistress cannot understand it. When she saw Ludivine join the half marathon, she feared that the uproar of the people would frighten her and that she might run away, risking harm. But after seeing her so comfortable, he let her continue following her to the goal, to see what she would do. And it is precisely at the finish line that he waited for it.

“I never thought she could finish the race, she’s a very lazy dog,” said the owner.

Well, to be lazy, she almost got on the podium. Ludivine has undoubtedly taught us all a lesson. Perseverance and the desire to achieve something can bring out the best in us, leading us to develop qualities we never thought we possessed. Brava Ludivine! And thanks…
