10 Reasons To Adopt An Adult Cat

10 reasons to adopt an adult cat

When you decide to adopt a pet, most of the time you prefer a puppy,  discarding a priori the possibility of taking an adult animal with us. Puppies seem prettier to us or we think they can be educated more easily. Over time, however, we realize that this is not quite the case.

In the case of cats, there are some prejudices caused most of the time by ignorance and adults are always discarded, but  we must know that the character of the cat does not depend only on the education that has been imparted, but also on the breed and its personal nature.

Today we would like to give you  10 reasons to adopt an adult cat  instead of a puppy.

1 – They don’t destroy everything

Adult cats no longer need to destroy everything  like kittens do. Puppies nibble on everything, because they are putting their teeth together, and they scratch everything around them. In the case of adult cats this is not the case, they are calmer and will spend their time playing with you or resting.

2 – They are more grateful

Cats that end up in a cattery or that have been given away by their owners, are perhaps the victims of a move or the death of the person who took care of them, etc. When you decide to adopt a stray cat  or an abandoned one, he  will be grateful,  at first he will be scared, but over time he will show very affectionate.

3 – The character they have is clear

An adult cat already has its own formed character,  you will already know what it is like and what to expect. It is true that we all like kittens, they seem tender and cute, but the fact remains that when they grow up they can have a bad temper.

4 – Personal hygiene

Adult cats spend half their time on personal hygiene, they  can spend hours and hours licking their fur. Not so with kittens, they spend their time playing and getting into trouble. The time has come to wash them, because they are dirty with everything they have pulled up from the floor.

5 – They do their business in the hygienic litter box

Once the cat has entered the house and you have put his things in order, the first thing he does is use his litter box with sand. You won’t have to worry about having to teach him where to relieve himself, he will know for himself. This does not happen with puppies, with whom you will have to arm yourself with holy patience to make them understand how to behave.

6 – They are great friends of children

Cats are the best playmates for children.  There are some breeds particularly predisposed to the care of children, because they are patient and lovers of games. This does not happen with  puppies, who can unintentionally scratch or bite the baby. Not only that, even the child can grab the kitten and hurt him because he is obviously more vulnerable than an adult cat.

7 – We must not educate him

When a cat is already in adulthood, it already knows everything. Cat owners know that educating them can be difficult, because they tend to do what they “like and like” and sometimes get frustrated by it. If you don’t have a lot of time to devote to raising a cat, it’s best to adopt an adult cat.

8 – Saving of time and effort

Caring for a small cat means putting a lot of time and effort into it. If you work outside the home or don’t have much time to devote to your cat, it is recommended that you adopt an adult cat. Much more time will be spent sleeping, not playing or messing around. As with all species of living things, babies need more care and attention.

9 – They don’t get in trouble

Kittens are always in trouble,  because they ate something they shouldn’t have, because they messed up their neighbor, etc. In short, the owner must always keep his eyes open. Adult cats have already passed this phase with the previous owner and you can rest assured.

10 – Adopting an adult cat is a gesture of compassion

The main reason for adopting an adult cat is that we would do a good job. Most people who decide to adopt a cat will get a puppy and adult cats will lose the chance to have a family. You think you can be this cat’s last chance to have a happy life.
