Of all animals, you will agree that these insects are particularly annoying. Their noise wakes you up on hot summer nights, continually disturbing your sleep. Other times  mosquito bites can compromise a trip, perhaps if you are accompanied by your small children.

In addition to the chemicals that you can buy in stores, but which may contain substances that are harmful to you and the environment, in this article we will show you the best DIY remedies to avoid mosquito bites . Organic and natural repellents that you can use as many times as you want.

Are there home remedies for mosquito bites?

In stores you can buy anti-mosquitoes that are quite effective, but also full of chemical components that can affect our health or that of our pets. Therefore, it is always good to have a natural alternative to avoid mosquito bites. Among these we point out:

1. Lemongrass

Lemongrass  is a plant whose aroma is unbearable for many insects. Therefore, it is a very effective remedy to keep mosquitoes at bay that will avoid getting close. You could plant lemongrass in a pot and place it in the garden or on the window. Or place candles with this fragrance, lighting them when you want to enjoy the pure summer air.

2. Basil

This aromatic plant, used so much in Mediterranean cuisine, serves to scare away mosquitoes and flies, thanks to its strong smell (which, on the other hand, is really pleasant for people).

You only need 2 tablespoons of dried basil leaves and 1/2 liter of water. Put everything in a saucepan and cook for about 20 minutes once the water boils. Then let the mixture rest for four hours. Strain it and pour it into a jar with a spray nozzle. You can spray it on curtains, sheets, clothes or directly in the room.

3. Eucalyptus oil

It is another of the best repellents to avoid mosquito bites. You will find it in herbalists and in “bio” shops and also serves to decongest the respiratory tract. You will need a ceramic or glass diffuser that works with a candle at the bottom. Pour 15 drops of eucalyptus essential oil and light the candle so that the aroma is released.

Some people carry this oil with them when they take a trip outdoors and spread it on their skin to prevent mosquitoes from approaching. It can also be mixed with shampoo or cream that you use regularly.

4. Cloves

Another powerful repellent that can be used by the whole family, especially children, because it is neither toxic nor harmful to health. Using them is very simple: put 30 cloves and two cups of water in a pot.

Cook for 20 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it rest for two hours. Then strain the liquid and mix it with your shampoo, conditioner or body lotion. Apply it before going outside or in the garden and the protection will be total.

5. Chamomile

Both chamomile and lavender are two amazing repellents against mosquito bites. In addition, they are plants with beautiful flowers, so keeping them on the terrace, balcony or patio will also solve the decoration problem.

The aroma emanating from chamomile – or lavender, depending on whether you use one or the other – is very strong and is unbearable for insects such as flies and mosquitoes. You can prepare an infusion with two tablespoons of chamomile and half a liter of boiling water.

After six hours of rest, filter everything and pour the liquid into a container equipped with a spray. You can spray it in a room, on a door, on windows or clothes… An easy way to avoid the entry of these boring summer visitors! You can sleep peacefully and forget about itching.
